I mentioned last time that Alan & Alex Pakes are making a brilliant job of painting Cromwell’s tender – that’s the thing about perfectionist painters “Good enough isn’t good enough” and they are going all out to make a superb job of this one. But tender painting isn’t the only thing that’s progressing on Cromwell though, since the front tubeplate arrived last month the boiler team have been cracking on with the boiler. I won’t mention completion dates here: so many people have asked that question that the answer should by now be self-evident. “We are doing our utmost to be ready for the deadline, we’ll give it our best shot”, I can tell you that the “best shot” includes a large number of people putting in quite scary amounts of their own time (possibly to the detriment of their home lives and relationships) and when Cromwell rolls off shed under her own steam they will breathe a huge sigh of relief and probably take a well-earned break.
