One of the most often asked questions we receive just now is "When will 45305 be coming back to Loughborough?". Unfortunately, over the last little while, with no main line connection and no shortage of available motive power, it has just not been a viable proposition to undertake the two road journeys necessary to bring the locomotive back to 'home base'.
Well, it would seem the 'Five' has taken matters into her own hands, as leaking firebox side stays (typically, those hidden behind the frames!) necessitate a boiler lift, for which 45305 will return to Loughborough from Haworth very soon indeed.
The K&WVR have proved, as ever, wonderful hosts, and we are sorry that the 'Five' will not now be able to 'sign off' a most enjoyable and unexpected sojourn with an appearance at the railway's gala, which we nevertheless wish them well for.
With main line work in the offing for 2015, we anticipate stripping the locomotive and lifting the boiler soon after arrival at '42A', with the intention of completing the work swiftly.
Naturally, if opportunities arise following the work for 45305 to work passenger trains at the GCR, we will make this known at the greatest possible notice. Please be sure to follow @Black5GTi on Twitter and 'like' us on Facebook by clicking the button at the top right hand corner of this page.
