Big Birthdays – a 50th and a 60th
This year (2011) sees big birthdays for two of the engines we look after:
This week sees the 50th Anniversary of Peak D123 entering traffic. To celebrate the occasion, the Great Central Railway had a special “Peak Birthday Weekend” on the 22nd & 23rd of October which was the closest weekend to the engine entering traffic. D123 hauled several trains each day and appeared to have enjoyed the celebration.

Also celebrating this year, the NRM’s Britannia Pacific No. 70013 “Oliver Cromwell” entered traffic at Norwich Thorpe Shed in 1951 so she is just ten years older than the peak. She has had a busy summer, and has performed well. In fact she’s been so busy that no-one has had time to post much about her exploits. I hope to get a season summary from the support crews at some point – or you could become a member and receive the magazine several times a year with timings, technical reports and other goodies.
