Take the Spitfire to the Faversham Hop Festival 4th Sept 2011
On the 4th of Sept, No. 70013 “Oliver Cromwell” will once again be working for Shepherd Neame; hauling the Spitfire to the Faversham Hop Festival. For those of you who haven’t experienced this trip before, it’s a chance not to miss – Beer & Steam – what more could you want? (More to the point, it’s the pride of the National Collection, hauling a train through the Garden of England to the home of Kentish Real Ale – just about perfect!)
This is what the Shepherd Neame Brewery has to say about the train: “Climb aboard the train of historic carriages behind a lovingly restored mainline steam locomotive and settle back into your reserved seat. Retrace the journey of East End hop pickers from London to the countryside of Kent for their annual working holiday. Your train will steam out of London Victoria at around 9.45am*, and call at Bromley South before heading through the Medway Towns to Faversham where arrival in is expected at 11.30am*. There will be plenty of time to savour the distinctive sights, sounds and tastes of the festival before joining the train for the return trip to London. Your return journey* includes a scenic tour of Kent including Dover, Ashford and Tonbridge giving our express engine a chance to stretch its legs before running via Bat & Ball and Bromley South. Arrival back in London is expected at 8.00pm*. * provisional times”
