70013 Repairs Update July 2010
Some time back I promised you all an update on the situation with the NRM’s Britannia No. 70013 “Oliver Cromwell”.
Cromwell is currently at Loughborough having the first stage of work carried out, after which she will go to Crewe Works for them to continue the repair.
I am not a boilersmith and am therefore going to avoid the pitfall of trying to explain the precise nature of either the fault or the repairs, except to say that we need to do a fair amount of work in the back corners of the firebox, but the problem is not insurmountable, and once repaired to the boiler inspector’s liking she should be back in traffic once again.
We aim to achieve this as rapidly as possible and I will post further updates as and when I have information to share.
