Those of you lucky enough to be members of 5305LA will recently have received a bonus issue of 5305LA News which details all the main line work done by the Locomotives in the care of the association over the summer. In it you will read a personal account of support-crewing 1T57, a report of Lamiel’s summer in the North West and an eye-witness account of some of Cromwell’s runs in the south. There are also performance reports, dates, in short all the information you’d wanted but hadn’t known you were missing. I have mentioned before that the editor and I have an agreement – we don’t use each other’s material, if it’s on this website it won’t be pasted into the newsletter later, nor will I lift stuff from there and recycle it here. The newsletter is only available to members of the association, it isn’t for sale in the shops, you can’t download a copy and so far as I’m aware, there aren’t copies in any doctors’ waiting rooms (though if you have back issues, you might try seeding them in surgeries across the country – but always ask first!)
How do you get a copy? Simple –become a member of 5305LA. There’s a page on this site with a downloadable form, print it off, make out a cheque or postal order and send it off to the address given.
One person who did this recently wrote “I met your treasurer, Hugh, on the O4 last Sunday when I had a trip to Leicester and back. This prompted me to look more closely at the 5305 LA, and I liked what I saw.” He included a donation with his application form and has offered practical help to the association as well – Thank You. It just goes to show that the best advertising for the association is word of mouth and personal interaction.
