We were reminded in conversation this week that 2008 is the 30th anniversary of Tom Tighe and team taking over custody of 30777 “Sir Lamiel” on behalf of the National Railway Museum.
During that time, Lamiel has undergone three major overhauls, plus last year’s boiler work, all under the expert supervision of Tom, who did his apprenticeship at Doncaster Works. Tom has also been involved with 45305 since she was first preserved in the late 1960s.
As an association we owe Tom a huge debt of gratitude, without his knowledge, experience and skill none of the engines in our care would be in the fine fettle they are today. Yes, there are other engineers in the 5305LA team, but Tom has a depth of experience of knowledge that can only be gained through 40 years of hard work.
Thanks Tom!
