D123 has continued as ever to give almost trouble free operation throughout the Autumn and Winter.
The triple pump caught fire recently due to the combination of a loose wire and a slight covering of oil fuel from a leaking fuel return pipe. The triple pump was duly changed and since then the fuel level has been run right down. This was to enable the leak to be fixed and an isolating valve fitted to the tank, so that it cab be maintained more easily in future.
Recently, one half of the batteries for the Peak have life expired and have been replaced, in time for the Sulzer Special!
GCR diesel haulage now runs right through the winter with the 1pm limited stop service being shared between the class 20 and the Peak. The summer timetable now has the 10.30 freight, 1pm express and 15.45 passenger service covered by the diesel turn, so there should be even more work for D123 this year.
