The locomotive is now nearing the end of a protracted overhaul.
The frames have been cleaned, examined and painted, while the front drag box has been rebuilt.
The wheelsets and axleboxes refurbished, all motion rebushed, with new piston and valve heads and a new valve liner replacing a cracked one.
Two new 10x live steam injectors replace the original Midland ones to increase reliability, whilst the tender tank has received a comprehensive refurbishment with a completely new tank bottom and coal space. The tender tank is currently in undercoat while all the locomotive and tender frames are fully painted, with only the running boards and cylinder covers to complete.
At the same time the boiler has also seen major attention. The smokebox tubeplate has been replaced, while new boiler plate has been fitted on the bottom of the outer wrapper near the foundation ring.
All 288 crown stays have also been replaced, with 100's of firebox stays also renewed.
The boiler has recently been retubed and at present awaits a hydraulic & steam test prior to refitting in the frames, pipework, cladding and painting.
