Shed Updates - Jan 2023

 

There's been a fair bit happening recently down in the shed.
On 45305:
All fastenings from the blast pipe and blast pipe base removed along with the removal of the blast pipe itself.
The rest of the smokebox holding down bolts were removed, as well as the back head cladding has been removed from inside the cab. This means we're almost ready to lift the boiler from the frames.
Sir Lamiel:
Since the tender was lifted off it's bogies, both bogies have now been needle gunned. Meanwhile the wheels are starting to have their first layers of undercoat applied to them.
Our shed shop will be open at the Great Central Railway's Winter Gala on the 28th & 29th January.

70013 Steams Again!

 
70013 Steams Again!

Today 70013 had it's boiler exam and passed with flying colours and is now ready to rule the rails once again!

The even better news is that 70013 will be in passenger service BOTH days this weekend at the GCR!

This will give us a chance to ensure that everything is in top condition before returning to the mainline. This should be in the near future so make the most of this weekend to see and ride behind Oliver Cromwell.

70013 News Update

 
This last week saw the arrival of the 40 new super heater elements. They were all fitted within a day and a big thank you to the Loughborough Shed staff for their impressive effort.

Looking ahead, a boiler exam is due early this week with a steam test to follow. Shortly after, 70013 will be gauged by Network Rail to ensure we are still within gauge. Hopefully all being well, we aim to have a test run in early/mid July, so watch this space!

In other news, 777 is in service this weekend for the GCR's 1940s Wartime Weekend.
